Manns Choice, PA — Republican congressional candidate Art Halvorson (PA-13) today called upon Congress and President Trump to expeditiously repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 (GFSZA).

“In the wake of the atrocity in Florida, I’ve listened patiently as politicians once again push for anti-2nd Amendment policies rather than real solutions,” Halvorson said. “It’s time for Washington to admit it made a tragic mistake by imperiously making our schools gun-free zones.”

Halvorson, who is licensed to carry a concealed gun, noted that the United States has fewer mass shootings per capita than several developed countries, including France, Norway, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, and the Czech Republic. More importantly, 98 percent of the mass shootings in America occur in gun-free zones.

“How many more children have to die before we realize that we’ve made our schools magnets for evil? The liberals’ goal of restricting access to defensive measures simply empowers evildoers to slaughter innocents. It is the God-given right of the people to protect themselves and those they care for.  The solution is to arm our teachers and train them in self-defense.”
